Summer has arrived and with some heat too might we add! So we thought we would put together some of our top tips to staying cool and hydrated during this heat.
Top Tip 1 – Run your wrists under the cold tap and damp your face with water!
Seems odd we know, BUT cooling your wrists is one of the best ways to get rid of heat in your body. The blood in the vein passes through your wrists which means the area cools down quicker and lowers your body temperature.
Top Tip 2- Just keep drinking….
Hydration is key during a heatwave. Even if you don’t feel thirsty, keep drinking… We know it may mean a couple more trips to the toilet during the day but when it’s hot your body sweats and sweat mean loss of water so it’s really important to put the water back into your body.
Top Tip 3 – Close your curtains and blinds in your house
We get this one might sound crazy but closing your curtains, blinds and even your windows during the day actually keeps your room cooler. It will block out the sunlight and keep the sun outside! You can always re open your window to let a breeze come in if your room is still hot.
Top Tip 4 – Wear loose clothing!
By wearing loose clothing you are allowing your skin to breathe and the breeze keep you cool! Tighter and heavier clothing clings to your skin which makes you feel hotter.
Top Tip 5 – unplug your electronics!
If you have any appliances you don’t need on or that you are using, unplug them! Electronics produce heat, during a heatwave that is the last thing you need… MORE HEAT. But needless to say plug in your fans, fans will be your new best friend during a heatwave.
